Blockchain for the Energy Transition: the ioCAT project
Blockchain applications are rapidly spreading across the energy sector, with multiple projects emerging all over the world. As you know the Barcelona Bitcoin Community is especially interested in this topic. In this meetup we will present a disruptive project developed and leaded by the Catalan Governement.
The ioCAT is a project led by the Catalan Institute of Energy (Generalitat de Catalunya) that combines ethereum’s blockchain technology with standalone energy micro-grids to empower prosumers by making them energy self-sufficient.
Currently it is not feasible to sellback to the national grid self-produced energy excesses, nor sharing those surpluses with your neighbours. The ioCAT solves that with isolated micro-grids token-managed.
Lluïsa Marsal will present on the ioCAT project and the important role of Catalan local authorities who will act as validator nodes, and Adrià Massanet will introduce the Proof-of-Authority, the consensus algorithm chosen for the ioCAT project.
